Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI/MT) – Upgrade from SNT
This course is available to whose who hold a valid/recognised MT SNT Qualification, looking to upgrade to a MT PCN L2 Qualification.
If you do not hold an MT SNT valid qualification, please book in for the full MT 5 day course here
Level 2
Course Overview
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), also known as Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), is primarily employed to inspect components or structures made of materials like iron, nickel, cobalt, and their alloys otherwise known as ferromagnetic materials.
This course is aimed at personnel who are responsible for the detection of surface breaking or near-surface indications. MPI uses small magnetic fields and small magnetic particles, either dry or suspended in a carrier fluid, to detect flaws in components. It is commonly used in various industries, such as manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and oil and gas, to inspect components like welds, castings, forgings, and structural elements. MPI is available in both visible and fluorescent inspection methods.
Course Objectives
Personnel certified to Magnetic Particle Inspection Level 2 will have demonstrated an understanding of the subject and a level of confidence to perform Magnetic Particle Inspection in accordance with NDT procedures.
Within certification, Level 2 personnel may be authorised and qualified by the employer to:
- Select the technique required to carry out the test method, visible or fluorescent
- Determine the limitations of its application
- Interpret codes, standards and procedures to identify their application
- Prepare equipment and verify settings regarding current waveforms and test mediums
- Perform the inspection tasks
- Interpret and evaluate the results of the inspection
- Complete and endorse inspection reports and records
- Supervise all tasks carried out by personnel at Level 1 or Level 2
Course Content
Below is an overview of the standard course, which includes but is not limited to:
- Material characteristics and surface condition
