Ultrasonic Testing (UT) – Weldments (Plate & Pipe) – Upgrade
NDT practitioners widely use Ultrasonic Testing and Inspection (UT) as a method during the manufacture, processing, and in-service stages to detect and evaluate flaws, defects, and thickness measurements in solid materials such as alloys, steels and composites.
This course is available to whose who hold a valid UT Thickness Certification, looking to upgrade to UT Plate & Pipe Certification. Available on both SNT and PCN schemes.
If you do not hold a UT qualification, please book in for the full UT Weldments (Plate & Pipe) 15 day course:
Level 2
Course Overview
Ultrasonic Testing and Inspection effectively detects defects in alloys, steels, and composites. This course targets personnel responsible for identifying fabrication errors in welded components and assessing internal structural integrity.
Using high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound), it penetrates the material to detect laminar, planar or volumetric defects, using the returning echoes to analyse and reveal the internal structure and integrity information.
Course coverage includes Ultrasonic Testing and Inspection in industries like petrochemical, shipping, renewable energy, and power, among others.
Course Objectives
Personnel certified to Ultrasonic Testing and Inspection Level 2 will have demonstrated an understanding of the subject and a level of confidence to perform Ultrasonic Testing and Inspection in accordance with NDT procedures.
Within certification, Level 2 personnel may be authorised and qualified by the employer to:
- Select the technique required to carry out the test method using compression, angle and shear waves
- Determine the limitations of each technique
- Interpret codes, standards and procedures to identify their application
- Prepare equipment, calibrate, function tests and use of reference test blocks
- Prepare and endorse written instructions for Ultrasonic Testing
- Perform the inspection tasks
- Interpret and evaluate the results of the inspection against inspection criteria
- Complete and endorse inspection reports and records
- Supervise all tasks carried out by personnel at Level 1 or Level 2
Course Content
Below is an overview of the standard course, which includes but is not limited to:
- Material characteristics and surface condition
- Lighting conditions and visual requirements
