Visual Inspection is a widely used method to inspect and evaluate the surface condition and the visible features of a component or structure without causing any damage to the material being examined.

This course is aimed at qualified and competent inspection personnel positioned within the oil and gas sector. This is only available to companies through their own written practices and SNT requirements.

Course Overview

This bespoke course will provide an overall understanding of Visual Inspection methodology and practices, specific for for in-service inspections of oil and gas productions, process plant and structures.

This two-day course is aimed at existing industry personnel who are required to visually inspect the surface and accessible areas of objects being inspected to identify any signs of anomalies within the petrochemical sector. 

The advantages of in-service visual Inspection make it a widely accessible method for conducting in-service inspections.

Course Objectives

Personnel certified in In-Service Visual Inspection will have demonstrated an understanding of the degradation processes associated with plant equipment and pressure systems. They will leave with a level of confidence to perform In-Service Visual Inspection in accordance with NDT procedures. 

Within certification, personnel may be authorised and qualified by the employer to:

  • Identify the main issues associated with in-service degradation
  • Determine the access limitations
  • Interpret governing documents and regulations 
  • Perform the inspection tasks
  • Interpret and evaluate the results of the inspection 
  • Complete and endorse inspection reports and records

Course Content

This course covers a combination of some of the following topics:

  • Vision requirements
  • Surface conditions
  • Corrosive and erosive environments
  • Understanding corrosion under insulation, dissimilar metals and inspection safety cases
  • Understanding regulations, codes and standards
  • Application of the Visual Inspection Method
  • Inspection test points in pipework and structural, isometrics, and plant and identification drawings
  • Interpreting the results
  • Providing recommendations for further inspection
  • Documentation and Reporting
  • Product technology on in-service degradation anomalies such as galvanic, micro bacterial and corrosion scale

Pre-Requisites

Those with no experience in process plant and structures are not eligible for this course. Instead, those candidates should consider our full Visual Inspection course.
